The #MicroPoetry of the blog began as a creative practice in 2012. Using the confines of twitter’s 140 characters, this discipline has been a generative opportunity to use words to poetically muse. Starting in 2017, brief reflections became another way to explore the use of these verses as part prayer, thought, reflection, challenge or something in-between. I hope these monthly collections offer you space to be, reflect and consider how your own choices might help you and other #ShineOn.
Rage
with gentle awareness of Blessing you are
Rage
with awakening in caring for self worlds change
Rage
with compassion creation centred
Inspired by rage harnessed …
Reflection
In this A Deacon’s Musing #Verse, I was trying to shape the #MicroPoetry in an exploration of the paradox between such a powerful emotion as rage and the grounding that arises with wisdom in the form of spiritual awakening, self-care and being compassion. In one way, it seems like a poetic way to explore the tension as almost texture-like.
What do you think?
Beneath thin veneer
consumerised shadowed
the We that shines
like light radiant
beckons brightly blazing
collectively cascading Immanence
Inspired by light that gathers as particle and emanates as wave …
Reflection
Previously, I had an opportunity to work and share the great work of Ms. Representation. Since then, I have remained very conscious of how consumerism shapes how we see ourselves. Often, that is not very well. This A Deacon’s Musing #MicroPoetry attempts to highlight that we are all meant to shine. This #Verse tries to explore how that happens in community and not through product acquisition or branding.
What grabs your attention?
Culture of shackles
free we are meant
liberation of Self
begins in relationship with Other
united
that which binds
we illusion shatter
Inspired by freedom realised …
Reflection
The image of shackles carries a difficult and powerful message in respect to conversations about justice and liberation. For those with privilege, the word can paralyse and for those without, it can enrage. In this A Deacon’s Musing #MicroPoetry, I was trying to explore how the word might unite us to consider that together mutual freedom can be realised. Not an easy task, indeed, but one I hope this #Verse poetically explores.
Within shadows
parading ego as truth
bluster as fact
deep within us
wisdom flourishes
thriving when tenaciously
humility & compassion awake
Inspired by life tenacious …
Reflection
I find using the words shadows very helpful in this time of change in which some see crisis and potential. Some view the two – crisis & potential – as coexisting at the same time, while others consider them more as either/or. This A Deacon’s Musing #MicroPoetry attempts to express this as both/and, where the potential arises as humility and compassion help navigate change.
To that which our attention is drawn
is the world that we create
In intention’s attention
that which we appreciate
will reality be
#Focus
Inspired by direction’s gaze …
Reflection
It is always a helpful reminder that where be place our attention is that which we will see. If a narrative of fear or deficit is dominant, that is what will shape our perception. If possibility and hope is the lens, then more of the same will come into focus. This is not to deny tears and grief, laughter and joy, but it reminds me of the power of intention. Hopefully this A Deacon’s Musing #MicroPoetry imparts some of that.
Like apple blossoms let go from tender branch embrace
As leaves fill warm autumnal days colour abounding
Give abundantly & generosity be
Inspired by radical generosity …
Reflection
I imagine a sky that is clear and frozen in a robin’s egg blue prairie sky. Then suddenly, a wind arises and the blossoms of an apple tree explode: what was once ‘empty’s space is now completely filled to the point where it is dizzying to watch the blossoms abundantly dance! This A Deacon’s Musing #MicroPoetry attempts to capture that image as a metaphor for radical generosity.
Trifle not
for we are not things to be objectified
nor products to be branded
We are each gifted part
collectively becoming
Essence blessed
Inspired by the power of lavender pure …
Reflection
In a constant narrative of being too little, not enough, unable and incapable, what would it look like if we celebrated the purity within?
What if we joyfully endeavoured to recognise the blessing each of us carries?
What if we looked to how we collectively contain the potential to change the world?
This A Deacon’s Musing #MicroPoetry hopefully muses about that in this #Verse
Your reflections are most welcome!
