The #MicroPoetry of the blog began as a creative practice in 2012. Using the confines of twitter’s 140 characters, this discipline has been a generative opportunity to use words to poetically muse. Starting in 2017, brief reflections became another way to explore the use of these verses as part prayer, thought, reflection, challenge or something in-between. I hope these monthly collections offer you space to be, reflect and consider how your own choices might help you and other #ShineOn.
Magic sparkles
in our daily doing
In memories alight
into time we travel
In this moment
where Now meets tomorrow
life’s spell eagerly embraces us
Inspired by the enchantment of new beginnings …
Reflection
We are everyday surrounded by magic. From the moment our neural net alights with electricity to awaken us to a new day to the way smells take us back in time, we are walking through wonder. Embracing this promise means that we can see with eyes which recognise what may be and a mind that begins to imagine harnessing creativity to begin to cast spells.
As you look out into this day, what are you invited to make which has yet to be?
There is never time perfect
nor ordained moment to ensure completion
It is simply in choice’s beginning
from which fruition’s promise unfolds
Inspired by beginning to shape conditions for a compassionate future …
Reflection
Are you ready yet?
Have you considered all the variations and concerns that might arise?
Have you prepared enough both personally and, perhaps, financially?
What if you make a mistake?
What if we fail?
At some point, we must just take that step to ensure the world we want is the one we see.
What step do you need to take today so that we shape a caring and welcoming world?
With each day’s dawn
inward converse & deeply listen
Within your dialogue
wisdom reveals next steps
toward joy being
caring hands & feet embodied
Inspired by internally discerning external decisions …
Reflection
How do you make important decisions?
What are your sources for reflection and challenge?
What practices do you explore in times of discernment?
There are many ways to answer these questions and there is no one right answer. One way to engage in the need to arrive at direction, is the inward journey. One in which we explore the wisdom we possess before engaging in external relationships to make a decision. This internal way of knowing is most important not just to arrive at an answer but it also allows us to own decisions that defy right and wrong yet which must still be made.
Upon the wall time’s passage
is captured in calendar’s sequential squares
With a new day
awaken that each blank
an opportunity for idea’s waking
Inspired by seeking ideas with a new day dawning …
Reflection
How do we nurture and make space for the Creative capacity we have?
What do we need to do realise that each day possesses an invitation to nurture new ideas?
As you walk into this new day, which is unique and never again to Be, what is beckoning in your mind’s eye that longs to Become?
With whom have you nurtured community to assist in this faithful task of translating ideas into actuality?

Happiness transcends
from ethereal to the material
revealing that in All
One we Are
Inspired by happiness revealing that we are a threaded weave …
Reflection
Happiness is a funny thing. It can arise when joy appears even in the midst of grief. It is evident when we a sense abundance even in the dire moments we all will face. Recognising it, however, well there is one of the tasks of a life lived with intention.
When happiness is revealed, not in those expected moments, but when least anticipated, we are invited to pause and embrace it. Focus on it. Ask from where it comes and how we might tap into as a resource for life. The intimate connexion is a, ultimately, one door to living with curious wonder.
Not in talking’s
pontificating provocation
will we learn
In space with one another
Creation speaks through
listening’s practice
to new wisdom hear
Inspired by the practice to listen to one another …
Reflection
I remember my Sitto’s (Arabic Maternal Grandmother) stories to this day. As she made pita bread, with flour floating in the air, I loved hearing about my mom and uncles’ younger days, tales of friends who were family of choice, her exploits in Montreal and all wonder of things. I never spoke, as I was held in the rapture of learnings, I would later come to call wisdom. How we listen determines what we hear.
In silence, when have you learned more than had you spoken?
Neutral words are not
they shape what we
hear & touch
taste & smell
That which we see
begins with their incantation
With tenderness
wisdom invoke
Inspired by using words to heal the World …
Reflection
“Think before you speak”
I suspect we have all, at some time or another, have heard this. Maybe in our youth, perhaps in an inner monologue, when we spoken from a place of emotion or frustration. Likely, if we take time to recall and reflect, we recognise the moment the words we used hurt someone else.
Words have power and when we embrace that truth, we become agents of change. We become people who can heal ourselves and one another with the very words we speak aloud or within.
That horizon toward which we all gaze
is imagination imbued
Though individually we may limited be
collectively we harness boundless creativity
Inspired by harnessing together an imagination limitless …
Reflection
Possibility and imagination are interwoven intimate partners. One spurs the other in a fluidity that is truly marvellous. Yet what they create together, which we may spy on the horizon, may feel untenable or impossible to reach.
When we choose to share both the horizon before us and open ourselves to the fact that sharing will produce further possibilities, something incredible happens. In collectively creating, we recognise that together we are able to shape a reality which on our own may often be just out of reach.
Your reflections are most welcome!
