The #MicroPoetry of the blog began as a creative practice in 2012. Using the confines of twitter’s 140 characters, this discipline has been a generative opportunity to use words to poetically muse. Starting in 2017, brief reflections became another way to explore the use of these verses as part prayer, thought, reflection, challenge or something in-between. I hope these monthly collections offer you space to be, reflect and consider how your own choices might help you and other #ShineOn.
That which lies behind
& that spied upon the horizon
are spiralled threads
In this weave
what lies within us
determines the nature
of life’s Braid
Inspired by harnessing what we carry to shape our the past & future…
Reflection
What happened yesterday not only connects with what will and might happen, but reminds us that this line of time, which we call linear, is an illusion. The very act of imaging the future, informs how we see the past. The act of valuing something in the past affects the present when we look to what might be. These threads of time are amazing blessings to embrace, trace, and weave into something that celebrated our creativity.
In our choice to create, how do time’s threads become something new?
In the fog
in which too many walk
Harness the energy you posses
by surrounding yourself
with those who will amplify
Light’s beacon we each bear
Inspired by the choice to amplify the Light …
Reflection
As you walk through this day, I invite you to pause. Whether at the corner, waiting for a light, on a walk through the park, in an airport prior to boarding or on your couch looking out through the window, what do you see?
What do you notice?
How does your neighbour look today?
How does the next-door dog sound?
In moments of Being, what do you feel you need to do to bring Light into this world you are noticing?
We are the soil
which the Universe’s energy infuses
The intention we foster
shapes what will sprout
With breath drawn
what shall we exhale To Be?
Inspired by nurturing a soil of goodness in one another …
Reflection
There are many ways to understand our shared and particular journeys. One way is to consider that we are each a field. We are rich soil promising to bring forth new life and new growth. With what we nurture ourselves, how we till our potential, water the promises we might bear, are important considerations. How we respond will and does have a direct impact on the world into which we walk each day.
The wood with which we frame
threads we weave
are the essence of the wellness
of home & community
With what shall we build
for tomorrow’s today?
Inspired by actions repeated & so reality shape …
Reflection
Whether it’s the gardens we till, children we nurture or relationships we cherish, with what we choose to build, form, and shape them directly affects the quality they have in our lives and others.
As you consider the choices you have made today, have they fostered the world that you hope for those who shall follow?
What choices have we made today from which we might learn to make betters ones tomorrow?
Contentment
A privilege to recognise
our collective blessings
In so acknowledging
may we rear those
that in this Now
our shared well-being foster
Inspired by embracing contentment as an ever-present invitation …
Reflection
Contentment is not a popular concept in our consumer-acquisition-oriented culture. At best, it is framed as compromise, at worst failure. Yet, I do not believe this is what the wisdom of Elders and the Mystics teach us.
Contentment is the calm space of being well in the moment and, in turn, slowing down. By focusing on just one gift, one practice, not only do we begin the journey toward wholeness, but we also model Now the world we intent to leave for others.
What blessing do you see today that requires attention for tomorrow?
Our lives
fluid cascading blessings
In our unfolding our acts
serve to establish covenants with Creation
In such promises our liberation depends
Inspired by accepting that our doing sets future’s stage …
Reflection
The acts of our lives are not made up of neutral choices. Every choice we make, and each following action, carry with them import not only in our Now, but they cascade into times and places we will never see.
We can be lulled to not awaken to this Universal truth. The journey along the spiritual path invites us continually to awaken to this Law. Sometimes the invitation is subtle and other times with banging cymbals. The first time we acknowledge that clang or whisper, the world changes forever.
We are creativity imbued
not bound by linear paths
We are sparks of Cosmos Divine
concerned not with progress
but by embracing we are energy
One
Inspired by allowing the mind to follow energy’s ribbon …
Reflection
When I open the door upon a new day, watch people walk from here to there, notice birds flying from branch to tree, what do I assume?
What do I see?
Do I assume that I am disconnected from people and Creation? Do I create stories that lead us to be divided further?
Do I recognise that in each blessed light, whether person, feathered, stone or tree, I reflect back the same illumination?
Do I wonder in such awakening what our collective illumination, when harnessed, might reveal in shadows that keep us apart?
On the Eve of what will Be
look back joyfully
Wonder alights our passion within
fuels curiosity in challenge’s midst
inspires in the face of No
Inspired by embracing learning & wonder as life-long companions …
Reflection
New Year’s Eve is like any other day. It stands between What Was and What Will Be. We attach a particular importance to this day, however. It serves as a ritual for reflection. It invites us to look backwards in order to imagine moving forward
In this in-between time, this moment Now, how we look upon the past will and does inform what we will see in the future. In that perspective, what we do and create further informs the future.
As you pause, in this moment, what do you see if you look for wonder in the days that were and helps you then look to the marvels ahead?
Your reflections are most welcome!
