The #MicroPoetry of the blog began as a creative practice in 2012. Using the confines of twitter’s 140 characters, this discipline has been a generative opportunity to use words to poetically muse. Starting in 2017, brief reflections became another way to explore the use of these verses as part prayer, thought, reflection, challenge or something in-between. I hope these monthly collections offer you space to be, reflect and consider how your own choices might help you and other #ShineOn.
Within Soul’s forge
what we fire feed
shapes belief’s instrument
What we shape upon anvil’s mantel
is a matter ethical
affecting dignity for all
Inspired by belief’s import to the world turn …
Reflection
Our soul’s connect with a reality that is not limited by doubt or cynicism. How and what we believe, that which we feed the spark Divine we each are, therefore, directly correlates to the kind of world we experience and collectively create.
If we tap into our reservoir of possibility that is this deep well, we can do so with intention, as opposed to habit. When we commit to this discipline, we not only see the implications of that which we shape but recognise how we affect one another. In this moment of awakening, compassion is born.
Beyond the confines
in which we wrap ourselves
Magic beckons when
we liberated
conjure justice for all
dignity for the denied
& Creation’s harmony
Inspired by dismantling the ways we limit one another …
Reflection
Magic begins the moment we help one another remove the clothes that obscure who we truly are. Often, we dress ourselves in these vestments because we are inundated with false messages that we are inadequate, lacking, or in some way unable to be who we are fully meant to be. Yet, when we recognise in ourselves and one another the amazingly wrought being we are, we are able to imagine and conjure ways to begin to help others who remain trapped in the illusions in which we were previously limited too.
Though door stands before us
handle beckons release
Structure we cannot see
nor hallway forward
Grasping the threshold
we must open it with faith
Inspired by sometimes spying only the step & not the staircase …
Reflection
Faith is a funny thing. It is not shaped in logic systems, process, or procedures. We may find these vestments of belief helpful, yet they are simply the human ways in which we try to structure what faith is.
Faith is opening the blinds and knowing that the sun will be there. It is wiping the condensation from the mirror, after a shower, and seeing in the reflection not negative messages we are told but seeing a loved and blessed being whom Creator invites to co-create. Faith is trusting that the staircase leads somewhere even if we do not know where it beckons.
Beyond fingers’ reach
space between
what is & will be
a void richly filled
inviting deliberate reflection
just before the moment
tomorrow we grasp
Inspired by climbing even when gravity tries to hold us down …
Reflection
Climbing to reach a goal is an image often used to motivate us. Whether it relates to something personal or community oriented, there will always be challenges to attain that toward which we are reaching.
In considering this image, it is in the pause, the space between that final reach or push that holds my attention. What is happening in us when we stretch one last time before possibly attaining journey’s end? What are we thinking and what changes the moment we grasp that toward which we have been reaching?
At journey’s outset
the horizon we spy
is limited by distance
we’ve travelled
At paths unexpected
& forays unanticipated
our vista wonder reveals
Inspired by revelation that we see further the farther we travel …
Reflection
I am often grateful for the gift of hindsight when I have completed something significant. In reflection it becomes clear that the original idea or imagining, dream or aspiration, is much more vibrant than its initial inception.
I think this is on account that as we do the work, the serious digging and planting of the idea we are intending to harvest, there is an expansion of the original idea. We begin to see more opportunity and possibility in the act of doing then was simply apparent in the moment of thinking it into being.
Listen not to false whisper
that divine essence diminishes
Upon still silent presence
focus
for in Its cascading harmony
you are to you listening
Inspired by choosing to listen to our wisdom in the world’s cacophony …
Reflection
One of the awakenings that is revealed on the inward journey is our connexion and relationship we have to Creator. We are not separate from Creation or one another. We are intimately bound to one another. This dawning knowing, therefore, invites us to listen deeply to the Universe. This, in turn, means taking seriously both what we hear and that, in some ways, we are listening to our own wisdom.
The circle of community
holds us when we knee bended
emboldens when passion motivated
expansively ripples outward
so all are dignity embraced
Inspired by those who celebrate the blessing we each are …
Reflection
I wish this were not the case, but I know that many do not have cheerleaders in their lives. Those people, Elders, and friends, who form a community of support that celebrates, holds and elevates us to aspire and dream. Yet even if you have not had that experience, imagining such a community is a step to begin to invite a world into being. One that offers us support to embrace the particular blessings we bring into this world, which otherwise will never be experienced. And that would indeed be a shame.
Amidst justice’s call
stay awake
As opportunity invites
stay prepared
In change’s constancy
stay vigilant
May we these things do
& so future sow
Inspired by embracing change’s challenge to foster a new day …
Reflection
Vigilance is an interesting word. Often it is expressed through the lens of superheroes. The word takes on a tone and tenor that celebrates brooding and violence as a way to just wrongs and balance a world that seems teetering.
I have found, however, that being vigilant is about remaining resilient. Such fortitude allows us to be nimble and compassionate in a world that too often is drawn to the illusion of stability and continues to glorify might.
Being ever-present and aware in this hurting world, through a lens of care and empathy, allows us to hold both ourselves and one another with tenacious tenderness. Such vigilance assists us to arrive together in the new day that always beckons.
Your reflections are most welcome!
