The #MicroPoetry of the blog began as a creative practice in 2012. Using the confines of twitter’s 140 characters, this discipline has been a generative opportunity to use words to poetically muse. Starting in 2017, brief reflections became another way to explore the use of these verses as part prayer, thought, reflection, challenge or something in-between. I hope these monthly collections offer you space to be, reflect and consider how your own choices might help you and other #ShineOn.
In time
preparing & acting
paradox holds
what might be with what will be
To bring imagined into reality
begins with step before we’re ready
Inspired by stepping into what may be …
Reflection
One more book, a little more research, just one other interview … there’s always more information that can be gathered, digested and then …
Whether we are ever ready to bring hopes and dreams into reality is something upon which to reflect. I am not sure we are ever actually fully prepared. We need to take that step into the unknown. It is in the anxious and expectant energy that both propels and frightens that we can connect with doing a new thing. Not necessarily easy, but when we begin, I have found is when we feel most alive.
What’s your thing?
The one that lies within
a Light awaiting release
Blessing meant for Creation
Promise of hope for the lost
Find it
Be it
Inspired by being the Thing we are meant to Be …
Reflection
Be that which you are meant to be.
What does that mean?
How do we find our thing?
For each person, the answer is different, found at distinct times and in multiple ways. Though there may be no consistent, repeatable formula, I have come to recognise one consistent way that happens, and that is practice.
Practice, intention, discipline are ways that we make space to hear that thing whispered to us. Sometimes its not even a whisper, it is a blatant shout from Creator. However, we choose to hear and learn of the blessing we are, it is indeed a gift to awaken to the reality that you, me, we are Blessed.
Into Universe’ unfolding harmony
in which notes cascade
treble’s wonder tantalises
flats inspire freedom
sing your song
into Our melody One
Inspired by recognising Our interconnected song …
Reflection
Music is an amazing thing! In so many ways it influences our very being. Whether that is as a player or listener, creator or participant, the science of the brain continues to demonstrate the manner in which we literally light up when we engage in the art form, regardless of how that might be.
As I was writing this musing, I was also aware that we emit electrical fields which can be measured in various ways, include with sound. This amazing reality mean we are in fact creating notes and what a wonder to imagine that when we come together, we are, in fact, part of a larger harmony than we could individually imagine.
Upon precipice’s ledge
a step further they wait
dreams dreamt
Fear boldly invites
let go trepidation’s whisper
do what we’re made to do
so Create
Inspired by fear harnessed …
Reflection
I find fear a fascinating emotion. In particular, how too often in pop culture, it is framed negatively or as a weakness. This clearly is the furthest thing, literally, from the truth.
Evolutionary science demonstrates that the oldest part of our brain harnesses fear for our very survival, both as individuals and as a species. What a gift, therefore, to apply our ability to think critically and creatively to this primal part of ourselves, in order to do things yet unimagined.
Before us a Wall
Bars not from journey’s end
Simply demarks paths
yet to be trod
Whether left right or over
as we focus
so will new avenues appear
Inspired by recognising paths yet seen …
Reflection
Being dissuaded to stop or cajoled to cease in a pursuit true is an unfortunate reality. Whether such discouragement is on account of our own inner doubt or the external pressures to fail, it is easy to let go of that which inspires us.
As I was considering the image of a wall, it occurred to me this might be a metaphor for this verse. The more I considered what we might, initially, consider that something might seem immovable and insurmountable, it became clear that is an illusion. As with all barriers, there are options if we but take the time to see opportunity before us.
Eons shape bone & feather
branch & granite
Whether water flows in carving curves
or wind sculpting stories
You need but spy
& beauty so recognise
Inspired by boundless beauty …
Reflection
In the physical vessels that allow our souls to experience this physical world, it is easy to be tempted to only see life as that which you touch. But underlying this physical reality, which we all experience, is beauty. Time shapes us, as it does all life, animate and inanimate, in which ways that are wonderous, even magical.
When you look out into this new day, what beauty do you see that you had not the day before?
Regardless obstacles sharp
challenges strewn
or doubts others sow
Within you lies wisdom deep
knowledge ancient
& so harnessed
Creator we become
Inspired by embracing life’s unfolding wisdom …
Reflection
External validation or direction is a touchstone in this consumer world in which we live. We often defer to Experts, as we dismiss our own knowing. Such internal wisdom takes care to recognise and often requires us to do so in the midst of a community of co-learners. When we nurture such connexions, we not only awaken to our own gifts of knowing but recognise our shared ability to shape a world in which others also so awaken.
Stumble bravely through unknowing to learning
Embrace failure’s wisdom & so creative become
Follow questions toward awareness’ dawn
So Bold Be
Inspired by creativity’s dawn in failure’s teachings …
Reflection
Failure is a reoccurring theme in our world. It is framed in the negative and, in turn, can serve to limit dreaming and innovation. Nothing comes to be without risk. The risk, the failure, is the teacher that allows us to create that which others might consider mere fancy.
What lessons have you learned from trying and stumbling?
What did those lessons allow you to do that otherwise would not have been possible with that bold step?
Your reflections are most welcome!
