Advent: It’s time to wait.
For whom are we waiting?
As Christians, we say that is Jesus! This is a Holy Time in our Christian calendar when we might make space for reflection, silence and – hopefully – confront some of the import of the choices that lay before us.
Original Blessing
God is Good – All the time!
All the time – God is good!
From the swirling of Nothing there arose Something:
God saw that it was good!
From Chaos, matter unformed, concrete unimagined, coalesced:
God saw that it was good!
In the absence of illumination, Creation flared into view:
God saw that it was good!
A flailing sphere dressed in a mantle of ozone:
God saw that it was good!
From plates submerged, shifting without course, land arose as turtle’s shell:
God saw that it was good!
A monotone mottled horizon pin-pricked with innumerable swirling galaxies:
God saw that it was good!
From Something life arose:
God saw that it was very good
In the pause, as potential met reality, Holy rest:
It is good
Advent
Our Pale Blue Dot
In the West Bank
Into the Holy that is Creation we awaken,
Into a place Sanctified, we wrestle & debate,
Into Gift, we balance tentatively between choices
Choice:
Ego or confidence
Control or nurture
Mechanistic or organic
Tendencies toward either/or
Desire for both/and
Our true selves lulled to apathy
Our true selves fractured mind from spirit from body
The dawn of Hope, ever present
The echoing reminder that we are not alone,
Listen, breathe, hear: “God saw that it was very good”
Hope
In you Holy potential
Awakening: difficult, but blessed
Peace
In you Holy calm
Awakening: expanding awareness, all is blessed
Joy
In you Holy mirth
Awakening: Creation interwoven, laughter echoes all is blessed
Love
In you Holy compassion
Awakening: in the midst of suffering, hands care for all is blessed
Birth
In us a child’s arrival the Teacher
Awakening: the cycle begins anew as all is blessed
God is Good – All the time!
