The #MicroPoetry of the blog began as a creative practice in 2012. Using the confines of twitter's 140 characters, this discipline has been a generative opportunity to use words to poetically muse. Starting in 2017, brief reflections became another way to explore the use of these verses as part prayer, thought, reflection, challenge or something in-between. I hope these monthly collections offer you space to be, reflect and consider how your own choices might help you and other #ShineOn.

How do we learn to live with open hands in a world that urges constant grasping?
We recognise that worth is not found in accumulation but in right relationship with what we hold. When we loosen our grip on excess, space appears for gratitude, generosity, and deeper attention. We discover a lighter way of being that frees our time, our focus, and our care for others. In choosing sufficiency over excess, we practise discipline and compassion. We become people who share readily, attend to what matters, and walk more quietly, trusting that abundance grows where our hold is gentle again.

We walk through a storm of voices, like leaves caught in restless wind, each gust pulling at our attention. Yet healing begins when we step out of the gale and find a sheltered hollow. There, the air is still, and we can hear the quiet rhythm of our own breath. Like soil settling after rain, we begin to steady. We do not need to follow every swirling current. Instead, we root ourselves beside a calm stream, letting its gentle flow restore us. In turning from the storm, we rediscover balance, and our lives slowly begin to mend and grow strong again.

How do we remain genuine when the world rewards surface display?
We notice the pull to present a version of ourselves that gains approval, yet something deeper calls for honesty. We learn that courage is quiet and steady, showing up as we are, even when it feels risky. In choosing openness, we create space for trust, kindness, and meaning to grow among us. We begin to value what is real over what is performed. Together, we encourage one another to live with consistency, to act with integrity, and to nurture a shared life marked by respect, connexion, and enduring hope.

We learn that calm often grows when we stop resisting what is already present in our lives. We recognise that naming our limits, weaknesses, and gifts invites honesty rather than denial. In this shared work, we discover that wholeness is not achieved by removing parts of ourselves but by holding them with care. Such practice asks patience, humility, and courage. It also calls us to release harsh judgement toward ourselves and others. As we do this together, space opens for deeper understanding, steadiness, and a gentler way of living in community and within our own being over time with intention.

How do we honour the turning points that shape our lives?
We recognise experience can feel dismissed, yet it carries depth earned through living. Each decision closes one path while opening others, inviting courage and trust. Like a river that bends, meets rocks, and finds another channel, change keeps moving us forward. We learn loss and transition are not failures but movements within a larger pattern. By attending to these shifts, we cultivate patience and humility. We become attentive to what is emerging when it feels uncertain. Together, we hold letting go and renewal, allowing growth to take root steadily.

We recognise that who we are is shown more by what we do than by what we say. Our everyday choices shape our character and affect the people around us. In simple acts, we build trust and show care. Over time, these small actions form our values and give meaning to our lives. We are invited to live with honesty, kindness, and responsibility. As we try to match our intentions with our actions, we help create stronger, more hopeful communities for everyone. We learn together that steady effort and simple steps can guide us towards deeper understanding and shared purpose./p>

How do we notice the deeper meaning present in everyday life?
We are often busy and can miss what is quietly around us. Yet we sense that value is not limited to what we can see or measure. We learn to pay attention with care, holding together both change and stillness in our minds. We begin to accept that life is complex and not easily explained. This invites us into humility and wonder. As we slow down, we recognise that significance may be present in all things, shaping how we live, how we care, and how we relate to the world around us.

Reflection
We recognise that life offers brief openings that can easily slip by when we fail to focus with care. We are invited to notice patterns, to pause, and to listen beneath the surface so that deeper meaning can emerge. When we cultivate steady presence, we begin to grow in insight and act with greater integrity. Our shared journey calls us to remain attentive to what shapes us, even in ordinary times. In choosing reflection over haste, we make space for growth, kindness, and wiser choices that benefit both ourselves and the communities we serve within each season of our life.

Your reflections are most welcome!
